Overview of Serena ChangeMan ZMF
Unmatched Mainframe Release Management
Release with confidence by including all the key stakeholders in the release process; ensure that they are part of the approval process and that they receive immediate notification of changes. Whether you are migrating one component as the result of an emergency fix or 50,000 components as a result of a major development project, ChangeMan ZMF, out of the box, provides you with comprehensive release management capabilities.
ChangeMan ZMF Enterprise Release Option
For those customers who have very complex and massive release management processes the Enterprise Release Option (ERO) for ChangeMan ZMF simplifies the maintenance of high volumes of changes. ERO manages the activities surrounding multiple simultaneous release processes, including:
Consolidation of migration paths into an integrated environment
Release audit, with automatic resolution of out-of-sync conditions
Automatic determination of copybook and load module concatenations for build processes
ChangeMan ZMF can be used in conjunction with Serena Application Release Manager, an innovative release management planning and control solution for both mainframe and distributed systems.
Work Faster with Change Packages
A change package consists of descriptive information, control parameters, component metadata, history information, and a set of libraries that belong exclusively to the change package and which contain the software components being changed. A change package is a secure development environment for project components, with access managed by ChangeMan ZMF using rules stored in your security system. They make mainframe development much simpler.
From the very beginning, ChangeMan ZMF has based the development process upon the Change Package. This intuitive approach to software development, invented by Serena, creates a unit of work within a software development or maintenance project that brings together all affected artifacts. It is managed as a unit throughout your defined lifecycle while software changes are in motion.
The flow of packages through your system is designed around how you do software development. For example, if you need a special process for emergency fixes, ChangeMan ZMF will support that. Perhaps you need a different lifecycle for the online programs versus the batch programs; ChangeMan ZMF supports that, too. Maybe the development task is vast and you want to organize the changes into groups based on geography, functionality or technology. Yes, ChangeMan ZMF supports that, too.
Track Every change
ChangeMan ZMF tracks every change you make. This means you can assess dependencies, perform impact analysis, and, when necessary, completely back out a change on your mainframe.
Unlike other tools that only allow audits at the end of a lifecycle, ChangeMan ZMF makes it possible for you to perform audits at any stage of the lifecycle. With the “anytime audit”, you can prevent problems much earlier -- when they are easier and cheaper to remediate.
The ChangeMan ZMF package audit function ensures the synchronization of all components that are being actively developed with all components that are currently in production. When you pass the audit function in ChangeMan ZMF, you can be confident that all affected and necessary components have been identified.
When you need to back out, ChangeMan ZMF does not just back out load modules. Our fully automated process backs out copybooks, source, DB2 components, and more. This lets you get your production environment back to a stable state and restores your source code to a point where you can begin correcting the problem immediately.
